The City of Vernon will hold a city election on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 to elect a Mayor and three Council Members. The (3) Council Members will be elected for (2) year terms and the Mayor is for a (1) year term. The testing of the voting equipment will be on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 6 at Vernon City Hall. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. The election will be held in Room 6 inside City Hall. Candidates for Mayor: Michelle Cook, John Hawkins, Jr. and David Shipes, Jr. Candidates for Council Members: Joey Brock, Gwendolyn March, Tray Hawkins and Gary Owens.
Vernon is in Washington
County, Florida and is named for George Washington's Virginia home,
Mt. Vernon. The quaint, pioneer town was the site of a
major Indian settlement and
was the Washington County
seat until 1927.
